Address: H-1111, Budapest, Szent Gellért tér 4., CH. building 2nd Floor 264.
Short introduction:
The main research focus of the BioRefinery Research Group is the valorization of biomass and industrial by-products; the production of high value-added bioproducts, bio-based platform chemicals, and biofuels; as well as the development of biorefinery technologies. Our research activities include the physicochemical and enzymatic fractionation of biomass, the production and characterization of novel enzymes, the fermentation-based utilization of biomass fractions, the development of integrated biomass-based bioprocesses, and the modelling and techno-economic analysis of complete biorefinery technologies. Our group holds a leading position in Hungary in the field of lignocellulosic biomass utilization and biorefinery development.
Members: Csaba Fehér PhD, Kata Buda, Krisztina Gurzó
Main research topics:
- Utilization of non-conventional yeasts in lignocellulose-based biorefinery processes
- Process simulation and techno-economic analysis of biorefineries using AspenTech software
- Development and optimization of novel fermentation processes to produce sugar alcohols and other bio-based platform molecules
- Investigation and optimization of chemical and enzymatic fractionation of agro-industrial by-products
- Application of lignocellulose and microbial biotechnology in emerging fields
- Development of biotechnological solutions supporting the circular bioeconomy
